Recently, we had the pleasure of organizing an exciting bike tour with a diverse group of eight cyclists, aged 25 to 45, on the beautiful island of Mallorca. This tour took us through the island's picturesque landscapes, starting from the charming coastal town of Can Picafort. Here's a recap of the first day of our journey.
The day began early in the morning in Can Picafort, a popular coastal town known for its long beaches and crystal-clear waters. Before setting off, we explored the historical Son Real necropolis, an impressive archaeological site offering a fascinating glimpse into the island's prehistoric history.
From Can Picafort, we headed south towards San Pablo. The route was pleasantly flat, allowing us to enjoy the breathtaking coastal scenery fully. With temperatures at a comfortable 18 degrees, the occasional wind added a refreshing touch to our ride.
In San Pablo, we made a brief stop to visit the charming Església de Sant Pau, a small church known for its tranquil atmosphere, offering a moment of reflection.
We continued to Son Serra de Marina, a picturesque village with an unspoiled beach. Here, we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the first signs of spring in the lush vegetation before moving on.
Our next station was Manacor, the third-largest city in Mallorca, known as the birthplace of tennis star Rafael Nadal. We took the opportunity to visit the famous Majorica Pearl Museum, where we learned about the production of the world-renowned Mallorcan pearls.
From Manacor, we rode to Petra, a charming town located off the main roads. We enjoyed a well-deserved break in one of the cozy cafes, savoring freshly brewed coffee and delicious baguettes, which gave us the energy we needed for the rest of the journey.
In Petra, we also visited the birthplace of Junípero Serra, a famous missionary and founder of many Californian cities. It was fascinating to learn more about his life and achievements.
Well-rested, we continued to Sineu, a historical town with an impressive market square and one of the island's oldest churches, the Iglesia de Santa Maria. The rich history of the place was palpable, and we took the time to explore the surroundings.
From Sineu, our path led north to the charming village of Llubí, known for its honey and traditional fiestas. The calm atmosphere provided a moment of relaxation before heading to Sa Pobla.
In Sa Pobla, known for its agricultural products, especially the famous potatoes, we made a short stop at the market. Here we gained insight into local life and the region's culinary specialties.
After our stay in Sa Pobla, we turned towards Campanet. This route took us along the majestic Tramuntana Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The breathtaking view of the mountains was one of the day's highlights.
In Campanet, we visited the impressive Coves de Campanet, a natural cave system with fascinating stalactite formations that left us all in awe.
Our ride continued to Pollença, a town full of history and culture. Although we didn't have time to climb Puig de Maria, we enjoyed exploring the numerous historical sites and cozy cafes.
From Pollença, we rode along the coast to Alcúdia, one of Mallorca's oldest towns, known for its well-preserved old town and the Roman ruins of Pollentia. The contrast between the historic buildings and the vibrant atmosphere was fascinating.
The first day of our tour ended with the return to Can Picafort via Alcúdia. The route once again offered us the opportunity to enjoy the stunning coastal landscape before we reached our starting point after a fulfilling day.
The first day of our Mallorca bike tour was a great success! The varied route offered not only sporting challenges but also deep insights into the island's culture and history. The diverse group of cyclists enjoyed the landscape's variety while the pleasant temperatures and refreshing sea breeze provided perfect conditions. We are looking forward to the next days and the further adventures that await us.
